ASSAY CASCADE SOLUTION

The IDBS Assay Cascade Solution (ACS) is an automated creation and control system to manage compounds through the hit-to-lead process. Each new compound is automatically added to the assay cascade and assigned particular biological assays based on its parent project. The results of each binding assay are interpreted and compounds progressed based on pre-defined rules created for each project. There, rules can be overridden manually, for example to stop compounds with a border-line IC50, or progress compounds that are particularly promising. Web-based views deliver status and results data that is specific to each user group:

• Chemists select a compound or project view to see the status of biological assay activity and rule-based stop/go decisions, which can then be overridden if necessary
• Biologists select an assay and date and are shown a task list of compounds allocated to that assay
• Project Managers can view planned assays for different projects to check on progress and hold-ups
• Department Heads can check the status of particular compounds in the assay cascade without having to check with scientists or project managers

ACS integrates with customer's registration, assay results and pharmacy databases to monitor, process and deliver results to scientists. Details of the assay cascade status and project rules are stored in a database and are used to drive the automation processes and provide data for the web interfaces.
