VIRTUAL ORGANIZATION - NEW!

Delivering Business Intelligence Solutions for Outsourcing

Industry pressures are forcing a dramatic rethink of traditional organizational structures and attitudes towards data sharing, in order to reduce costs and optimize results. This is true in industries from manufacturing to pharmaceuticals and biotech. There is considerable interest in outsourcing scientific discovery, for example synthetic chemistry, and computationally intensive operations, such as assessment of drugability.

As a result these organizations are moving away from a fortress like mentality to a more of an “ecology” where data and tasks are shared across a number of trusted groups in a secure environment, across multiple locations. InforSense lead the field in developing virtual outsourcing capabilities both for business process management, business intelligence and service oriented architecture orchestration.

InforSense 5.0 delivers intelligence at every stage of an outsourcing project. The product’s architecture lends itself to a process-driven business problem, where one stage cannot be started before another is successfully completed. In addition InforSense 5.0 combines the ability to report on any data, regardless of source, type or volume, with any analytics, and delivers the results in a secure web front-end, the other essential part of outsourcing success – collaboration – is possible between client and service provider, 24/7 with guaranteed information accuracy.

Process driven management of data sharing and communication

When outsourcing major research activities to distant countries there are many operational and management considerations to be taken into account. The two companies need to be able to exchange data securely, track progress of tasks and developments, share information and communicate effectively. The business processes around these activities are likely to vary from company to company requiring outsourcing systems to support these operations to be flexible and quick to implement. InforSense have developed web portals to support outsourcing of synthetic chemistry to China for a US biotech, who are achieving 70% cost savings. InforSense technology allows business processes to be captured electronically and used to drive scientific applications, enabling data sharing and collaboration in a secure environment. Each company has specific screens that allow compounds to be uploaded, assigned to a chemist, results uploaded and general status data to be viewed depending on user roles.

Platform for orchestrating internal and external web services

InforSense have also been working on a major EU research project with GSK and NEC to develop secure Virtual Organization infrastructures to support Business-to-Business and Business-to-Academia services, including semantic brokers. Having been developed as a grid enabled high performance analytics technology; InforSense has been extended with security components from NEC and Grid components from GRIA to provide a secure environment to share computational services, in-addition to business processes. This allows an SOA in a pharmaceutical company to be augmented with external services from a global marketplace. Informaticians are able to seamlessly orchestrate new combinations of internal web services and external services, reducing internal support costs and optimizing data analysis and understanding. This technology has been successfully deployed in a production system at GSK that outsources different protein annotation services to external companies and universities via a secure and scalable grid infrastructure.

To support a Virtual Organisation the IT infrastructure must support the construction of transient and ad-hoc application that combine internal and external services. It is important that these applications be quickly constructed and deployed to end users to achieve rapid business benefits. The InforSense platform is ideal to support the construction of applications to support activities in a Virtual Organisation. All internal and external services can be combined in the InforSense environment in an easy to use interface by business analysts or scientifically trained informaticians. The InforSense environment can improve productivity in developing applications by up to ten times and enables non-programmers to build applications quickly and intuitively. The applications that are constructed can be then deployed to a wide user base, via interactive web portals, bringing further benefits to the wider enterprise by making integrated data available for business decisions.
